Beyonce and Lady Gaga each received nine nominations for the next MTV Video Music Awards.
Both singers were nominated for video of the year for their respective songs, Single Ladies (Beyonce) and Poker Face (Lady Gaga).
They were also nominated for best female video of the year along with Katy Perry for Hot N Cold, Kelly Clarkson for My Life Would Suck Without You, Taylor Swift for You Belong and Pink for So What.
For the men, nominations include Eminem with We Made You, Ne-Yo with Miss Independent, Kanye West with Love Lockdown, T.I. and Rihanna for Live Your Life and Jay-Z for D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune.)
Britney Spears is also nominated for seven awards for Womanizer and Circus, for video of the year and best pop video.
Russell Brand will host the show for the second year. Presenters include Katy Perry, Ne-Yo and Chace Crawford. Taylor Swift, Pink, Green Day and Muse will also perform on the show.
The VMAs will take place on September 13 in New York.
