Norah Jones Gets Ready To Record Soundtrack

Norah Jones, Cat Power, Bright Eyes, the Black Keys and Willie Nelson will all be recording songs for the soundtrack of the film The Hottest State.

The artists will be performing songs written by Jesse Harris.  The Hottest State was directed by actor Ethan Hawke.

The disc will be released on August 7 by Hickory Records.  Hickory also released the first disc from American Idol contestant Elliot Yamin earlier this year.

Harris will co-produce the film, and also have a role.  He will also record three songs himself for the soundtrack.  Several artists have recorded Harris’s songs, including Feist, M. Ward, Emmylou Harris, Brad Mehldau, Tony Scherr and Rocha.

According to Billboard.com, Hawke, who has known Harris since the early 1990s, said, "From our first conversation, I was overwhelmed by the quality of Jesse’s songwriting and how perfectly matched it was to my aspirations for the tone and mood of the film."

The Hottest State opens in American theatres on August 24.
