Obesity linked to brain function

Sometimes the brain does not send out the message quickly enough that the body is full.

Contrary to popular belief, being overweight is not only the result of unhealthy eating. The brain also plays an important role in the condition.

Some people overeat because their brain doesn’t tell them quickly enough that they have eaten their fill. A research team at Yale University found this to be the case when they tested the theory on rats.

Some rodents had slower nerve endings so the "full" message reached the body more slowly. These rats ate more than the others at every meal and started to pack on the pounds.

The study also reveals a genetic link. This brain disorder can explain why two children in the same family can eat the same foods but have different physiques.
