Olsen twins launch eyewear collection

Mary-Kate and Ashley set their sights on expanding their fashion empire.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have set their sights on expanding their fashion empire into the world of eyewar, with a new line of optical frames distributed under their contemporary fashion label Elizabeth and James, reports Coco Perez.

The new collection will include 13 different styles named after streets in New York City and Los Angeles, such as Folsom, a style of round specs with heavy black frames no doubt inspired by Harry Potter.

"The design aesthetic in the optical collection is a true reflection of Elizabeth and James’ essence," explained Ashley. "A classic feel with a modern sensibility."

The new optical collection will borrow some fun details from the label’s spring 2011 clothing collection, noted Mary-Kate. The line arrives in upscale optical stores this summer, and is expected to retail between $155 for acetate frames to $265 for stainless steel.

The twins are also currently working on a new online shopping site, which will offer customized fashion advice and suggestions. As well as acting as a virtual personal shopper, the site will include fashion how-to videos and stories about the latest trends.

"With StyleMint.com, Ashley and I have created an online experience reflecting our love of style and allowing us to engage with our customers directly, which is an inspiring new way for us to think and create as designers," said Mary-Kate in a release.
