On the scent of Elie Saab

Lebanese fashion designer to debut fragrance in 2012.

Lebanese fashion designer Elie Saab has been developing his signature scent for the past two years in collaboration with Beauty Prestige International, a division of Shiseido that includes a portfolio of fragrances from famous designers like Jean Paul Gaultier and Narciso Rodriguez, reports Fashion Mag.

The designer, who became an overnight sensation after actress Halle Berry wore one of his designs the night she won her Oscar, talked about how his new perfume came into being. In 2009, he announced his partnership with BPI and how fragrance was an important addition to the development of his brand.

“Creating a fragrance has become an essential step of the development of our couture house,” stated Saab. "We have chosen BPI as a partner who is able to actualize our ambitions. We will create together a signature fragrance and an image that embody the DNA of our brand.”

The scent was developed with Francis Kurkdjian, who is also behind Le Mâle by Jean Paul Gaultier, and For Her by Narciso Rodriguez.

The fragrance has a floral woody scent with notes of orange blossom, jasmine, patchouli, and cedar. The chunky glass bottle has a classical baroque design by Sylvie de France.

Launched as early as next July in Europe and the United States, the perfume will make its worldwide debut in September 2012.

Saab has signed a 10-year licensing agreement with BPI to create and distribute fragrances, as well as a range of cosmetics in his name – so we can expect to see more of this designer’s style in the months to come.
