One Direction’s dance routines are "organic".
The group’s choreographer, Paul Roberts, believes the quintet – Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan – would be uncomfortable with structured, matching steps, and prefer to just have "fun" on stage.
He said: "There are no synchronised dance steps, it’s more organic. The boys just want to go on stage and have fun.
"They are brilliant at being aware of each other on stage, and unselfish.
"They think, ‘I know Paul has asked us to be equally spaced across the front stage, but we are a little lopsided’, so someone takes the initiative and fills the space."
Despite their relaxed approach, Paul is always close at hand to prompt the ‘Little Things’ singers with the right moves, and they are always aware when they make a mistake.
He added to The Sun newspaper: "I’m on the side of the stage. The boys take the mickey out of me for it. They know and understand the hand signals.
"When they make a mistake and things go wrong, they come off stage and immediately apologise."
Meanwhile, folk singer Jake Bugg – who has repeatedly lashed out at the band – says he is "suspicious" of One Direction’s live show and dance routines.
He said: "I find that there’s too much choreography going on to be able to sing live as well, which is always quite suspicious in my eyes."
