Dans les coulisses

Owen Beck and Filip Mesar are doing very well after an ordinary start to the season.

When the season began, Owen Beck and Filip Mesar weren’t going full steam ahead. The former was struggling to find his feet in the OHL and the latter wasn’t really playing in Laval.

And when he did play, it wasn’t all quality minutes, let’s put it that way.

Beck’s case was disappointing. After all, even if the sample size was small, the fact remains that after six games, his small point tally (one goal) wasn’t all that impressive.

But in his last four games with Peterborough, he rose to the occasion. Beck’s seven points (five goals and two assists) prove that he’s taken his wanderings in his stride.

In his last four games, he collected three goals, then an assist, then a goal and an assist before scoring a goal yesterday in the Petes’ win over the Generals.

And let’s face it: his goal yesterday was a great play.

The case of Filip Mesar is also interesting, as his return to the OHL was the best thing that could have happened to him in my eyes. After all, he didn’t dominate last year with the Rangers in the OHL because he ran out of gas along the way.

But now, at the start of the year, he seems to be energized.

Instead of being in the tough environment of the Laval Rocket, Mesar now finds himself with an OHL powerhouse. In three games, he has five points, including two goals.

Yesterday, he had his first “only” one-point game in the OHL. He did so by scoring a goal in a 4-3 Rangers loss to Windsor.

Both teams have 18 points so far this season (14 games for the Rangers, 12 for the Petes), tying them with other teams for second place overall.

Mississauga – with 20 points – is at the top.

Next year, if all goes well, the two players should be playing together for the Laval Rocket. But until then, there’s a junior season, including the CMJ, to contend with.

Note thatthey are doing better than Juraj Slafkovsky, drafted before them in 2022… but who has been playing in the NHL for a year.
