Canadian prospect Owen Beck got himself into trouble again on Friday night against the London Knights in the OHL championship final.
The Peterborough Petes forward served up a leg-biter to his opponent late in the game. The referees handed him a five-minute penalty, in addition to ejecting him from Game 5 of the final series.
Here’s the footage in question.

There’s no doubt the gesture was dangerous. If Owen Beck is suspended, it will be a big loss for the Petes.

The move was completely unnecessary. The Petes were already losing 4-1 and the penalty came with 40 seconds to go. This will certainly be a factor influencing OHL officials in their decision whether or not to suspend him.
Beck had made another dangerous gesture in Game 2 of the final series, striking a Knights player in the head.

He had also been sent off in the match, but was not suspended.
However, after two dangerous acts in the same series, it wouldn’t be surprising if the OHL suspended him for a game or the rest of the series.
Beck has been effective for the Petes since the start of the final. He scored two goals in Peterborough’s 6-5 win in Game 3.
Logan Mailloux scored an empty-net goal late in the game. The Petes lead the series 3-2 and can win the next game. All that remains to be seen is whether it will be with or without Owen Beck.
