Owen Beck is currently at the Canadiens’ development camp. On Monday, he told reporters about his plans for the 2023-24 season. And he’s not taking it lightly.
In fact, the 19-year-old Ontarian would like to stay with the big club.
His plan is very clear 👀🔵⚪️🔴 https://t.co/GhwODOsnPN

“I have short-term goals. I want to try to make the team even though I’m 19.” – Owen Beck
As Beck explains, his age won’t affect his career. He believes he has what it takes to stay with the team. If not in Montreal, he’ll spend his season in the OHL with the Peterborough Petes, with whom he won the championship last season.
He is aware that he needs to improve his game. According to him, he needs to work on his skating stroke as well as his strength. It’s good that he’s confident, but it’s also great to know that he knows his weaknesses and is willing to work to improve them.
According to Beck, members of the CH organization have told him to stay true to himself and make sure he continues on the same path he’s been on since being drafted in 2022.
Beck is the only player in the development camp with NHL experience, having been urgently recalled to face the Ottawa Senators on January 28. He may not have collected a point in that game, but he left a lasting impression.
The good news for Beck is that the Canadiens like to give their young players chances. We need only think of Juraj Slafkovsky, Arber Xhekaj, Kaiden Guhle and Jordan Harris in 2022-23.
They were all important players who gave their heart and soul to the team. It makes you want to play more young players.
Beck scored 66 points in 60 OHL games in 2022-23, having played with the Mississauga Steelheads before being traded to the Petes. He made his mark during the playoffs, leading his team to the championship.
He was also one of his team’s most important players during the Petes’ Memorial Cup run. He collected 3 points in 5 games during the tournament.
Owen Beck will therefore be a player to watch at the Canadiens’ training camp at the end of the summer. We hope to see him play a few games in a Tricolore uniform.
