Paramount to build theme park in Spain

Huge new complex coming to Alhama de Murcia municipality.

Film production company Paramount Pictures is readying to open their first European theme park in Alhama de Murcia, Spain, reports Attractions Management. The production company has partnered with Spanish firm Proyectos Emblemáticos Murcianos (Premursa) in order to make the park a reality.

Divided into four main areas – action-oriented Adventure City with a Titanic-themed ride, Woodland Fantasy for children, all-ages Rango’s West, and science-fiction-based Plaza Futura – the park will offer over 30 rides and two themed hotels. The entry area, Paseo Paramount, will also feature a School of Rock live music production.

"Paramount chose the Region of Murcia for this project because of the exceptional qualities that make it a popular tourist destination," said executive vice president Michael Bartok. "The support from the regional and local governments as well as Premursa is remarkable and we look forward to creating a world-class destination."

The theme park will be part of a $1.5 billion tourism project aimed at boosting the local economy, and is set to open in spring 2015. Along with the amusement park, the new development will include a 11.1 million square foot business and leisure complex with seven hotels, a casino and a convention center.
