The 42-year-old actor inaugurated the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center, which gives support to cancer victims and their families. The hospital was named in honour of the actor.
The Kennebec Journal reported that cancer touches Dempsey since his mother, Amanda, overcame ovarian cancer.
Dempsey told the press about his experience with cancer, and how he got through this trying time. "For a family to get a cancer diagnosis is devastating, and all the information out there can be overwhelming. So I talked to my sister about a place where people could go for all this type of information and help. Knowledge is power," expressed the actor.
