While Patrick Roy was in the midst of an absolutely exceptional playoff run with the Quebec Remparts, the coach’s future in the NHL was discussed in some serious detail.
First, many observers saw a possible fit with the New York Rangers (who were expected to hire Peter Laviolette). Then, the Columbus Blue Jackets opted for Brad Larsen, even though Roy had previously been seen as the favorite to get the job.
Now that the former Habs goaltender will officially leave the Remparts tomorrow , will he find an NHL head coaching position?
Rumour has it that the Ottawa Senators are the ones to watch.

TSN’s Darren Dreger reported during the Memorial Cup that one of the groups interested in buying the Senators was interested in Casseau. This was already an interesting avenue to pursue, considering that Ottawa, after all, is not far from Quebec City and Montreal. From a geographical point of view, this could facilitate a transition.
That said, in this new JdeM article, we read that the investor group in question is that of Michael Andlauer, minority shareholder of the Canadiens. Andlauer, who was part of the search group for the Canadiens’ new GM in 2022, owns 10% of the Montreal Canadiens organization.
Roy was one of the 10 candidates interviewed for the GM position.
One might think that the sale of the Sens would affect the Tricolore, but not necessarily, as explained in this article published on DansLesCoulisses last year.
The icing on the cake is that Andlauer’s group is said to be the favorite to buy the Sens. The Ottawa Sun reported this weekend.
So, Patrick Roy is the favorite of the NHL favorites.
It’s by no means a done deal, but it’s not at all impossible that the former #33 will be back in the NHL, behind the bench of a team very close to Montreal.
