Paul McCartney and Diana Krall collaborate

Former Beatle records standards album with a little help from jazz pianist and singer.

With more than forty albums to his credit, musician Paul McCartney, 68, continues his career uninterrupted with an upcoming compilation of old standards close to his heart, reports Contact Music.

Like Rod Stewart’s standards album, McCartney mentioned that he had wanted to pay tribute to his father’s style of music for some time: "It’s my dad’s style of music. I’ve wanted to do that kind of thing forever, since the Beatle days. But then Rod went mad on it. I thought, ‘I have to wait so it doesn’t look like I’m trying to do a Rod’.

"They’re just songs I admire. I’m trying to steer away from the obvious ones. It’s get-home-from-work music. You put it on and get a glass of wine."

McCartney has been recording with jazz singer-songwriter Diana Krall, wife of British singer-songwriter Elvis Costello. The material is based on McCartney’s parents’ music as he was growing up in the 1950s.

The Yesterday singer is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the most successful musician and composer in popular music history with sales of 100 million singles and 60 gold discs, and considered the most successful songwriter – having written or co-written 188 charted records (as of 2008), of which 91 reached the top 10, and 33 made it to number one.
