Dutch filmmaker Paul Verhoeven (Starship Troopers, Basic Instinct, Total Recall), will direct the thriller The Surrogate, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
This film adaptation of the Kathryn Mackel novel published in 2004 follows a couple that is desperate to have a child. They are found in an untenable situation when they discover that their chosen surrogate mother is crazy.
Meanwhile, Verhoeven is directing his next film, The Winter Queen with Milla Jovovich, due out next year.
