The cast also includes Ryan Phillippe, Jesse Bradford and Adam Beach. Eastwood will direct the film which is being produced by Steven Spielberg.
The movie was inspired by the book "Flags of Our Fathers: Heroes of Iwo Jima", written by James Bradley. Filming is scheduled to begin in August.
The story is told from the point of view of Bradley, who is the son of one of the six 6 men who raised the flag at the battle of Iwo Jima. Only after the death of his father did James Bradley realize his heroism. The movie tells the story of what would become one of the most famous war photographs of all time.
The screenplay was written by Paul Haggis, who also worked with Eastwood on Million Dollar Baby. Haggis also did an exceptional job on the script for Crash.
Walker will play Hank Hansen, a seasoned soldier and flag raiser.
