Peanut allergy alert for Wally & Molly Salt Water Taffy

Government warns peanut allergy sufferers to avoid Wally & Molly Salt Water Taffy.

Wally & Molly Salt Water Taffy contains traces of peanuts not indicated on the label and should be avoided by anyone suffering from a peanut allergy, says an official warning released by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

Although peanuts do not appear in the taffy’s ingredient list, the food contains enough traces to pose a significant risk to those with peanut allergies, and it can cause a serious or even life-threatening allergic reaction. So far, at least one such reaction has been reported.

The confection is sold in stores throughout the country in 190g packages bearing the product code 6 28162 81013 0. The CFIA is currently working with the product importer in order to remove the product from the shelves, but consumers with allergies should exercise extra caution.

For more information, consumers can contact the CFIA directly at 1-800-442-2342 or TTY 1-800-465-7735 between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. (Eastern), Monday to Friday.
