Pedro Almodovar Plans English Film

Filmmaker Pedro Almodovar hopes to make a movie in English, but not in Hollywood.

Almodovar wants to make an English-language film, but with European funding.  During an interview at the New Yorker Festival, the director explained his hesitations.

The Spanish filmmaker has been approached numerous times to do a film in the United States.  Almodovar, 55, has refused each offer, saying that he felt he could lose his independance if he was caught in the Hollywood shuffle.  The director also added that he was interested in making the films The Hours and The Accidental Tourist, although the rights had already been obtained by others.

Volver, Almodovar’s latest work, was recognised at the Cannes Film Festival.  The film starred Penelope Cruz and Carmen Maura.
