Variety reports that Cruz is currently in talks to star in Venuto al Mondo (Into the World) under the direction of Sergio Castellitto. The actress worked with Castellito in 2004 in the film Non ti muovere (Don’t Move).
As in Don’t Move, Into the World is based on a novel by Margaret Mazzantini, Castellitto’s wife.
The drama, which takes place in Sarajevo, follows a single mother, who would be played by Cruz. Production on the project is likely to begin this year.
In the meantime, we can next see Penélope Cruz in Nine, opening in theatres on November 25.
