Pete Townshend regrets joining The Who

Guitarist says he wishes he had never joined the legendary band.

Guitarist Pete Townshend said that he regrets joining The Who, the iconic English rock band which launched his career, reports NME.

Despite the legacy of the band – whose well-known hits include My Generation and the rock-opera Tommy – Townshend revealed that he thought he would have done better as a solo act.

"What would I have done differently? I would never have joined a band," he told Uncut during an interview for a special one-off magazine, The Who: The Ultimate Music Guide.

"Even though I am quite a good gang member and a good trouper on the road, I am bad at creative collaboration."

Townshend revealed that without The Who, he "would be less physically damaged today. My ears, right wrist and shoulder would work more efficiently. In all other respects I am in extremely good shape," he said.

The band has sold over 100 million records since they formed in 1964, and even performed at Woodstock. In 1990, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as "prime contenders, in the minds of many, for the title of World’s Greatest Rock Band."
