Former Genesis frontman Peter Gabriel has been following a new path that includes the orchestral sounds of violins and horns instead of electric guitars, reports Consequence of Sound.

New Blood is the artist’s ninth studio album since his solo career first took off in 1977, and is a continuation of last year’s album Scratch My Back, in which Gabriel covered favorite songs by artists like David Bowie, Arcade Fire, and Neil Young – all accompanied by an orchestra.

This time the singer has chosen his own catalog to record with the New Blood orchestra, including hits like In Your Eyes and Solsbury Hill. The idea came about while the singer toured with the 46-piece New Blood Orchestra.

The album is set to drop October 11. A couple of weeks later, on October 25, a new live 3D HD DVD of Gabriel and the orchestra performing at the Hammersmith Apollo in London will also be released. A special edition set will also include a bonus CD of concert highlights and a 60-page hardcover photo book.
