Peter Gabriel Won’t Perform at the Oscars

Singer Peter Gabriel is backing out of his performance for the Oscars due to creative differences.

NME.com reports that Peter Gabriel will not be performing his song Down to Earth, which has been nominated for an Oscar, due to creative differences with the Academy.

When he learned that only 65 seconds of his song would be heard instead of the complete version, the British singer simply wrote on his Internet site that he wouldn’t perform, but that he would still be present for Oscar night, taking place at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on February 22.

"We were originally hoping to perform," he said. "We’d assumed, as there are only three nominees, that the songs would be performed in full. One of the things they’ve decided to cut is the songs. So we’ve only been offered 65 seconds as part of a medley. So I’ve now decided to withdraw from the ceremony, but I’ll still go along," added the former Genesis member.
