Phoebe Philo brings back the classics

British designer launches Céline Classics micro-collection.

British designer Phoebe Philo has launched a new capsule collection, Céline Classics, that brings back six of Céline’s best looks with a new art deco flair, reports Vogue.

After taking two years off to have children, Philo returned to the fashion world in 2008, taking the reins of the troubled fashion house at Céline, which she immediately began to make her own.

"I don’t really spend a lot of time thinking, ‘Is this Céline?’" she told the Financial Times

"I felt quite clear from the offset about what I wanted to do in terms of fashion – or certainly what I didn’t want. I wanted something that felt honest, that was a mixture of what I want to wear and how I want to live. I felt it needed to be quite simple and very real."

The new line includes timeless collectibles like a black wool Crombie coat, a mallard-blue poplin boy shirt, and a cobalt blue ‘grain de poudre’ women’s tuxedo.

The cuts are slender and boyish, with a minimalist style and well-defined blocks of soft colors like baby blue, pink and light green.

Available at upscale U.S. retailers, prices run from about $580 for a Céline shirt to $3,750 for a wool coat.
