Phone app helps tourists navigate historic French port

City’s tourist board releases virtual tourguide cellphone app La Rochelle Tour.

Visitors to the popular tourist destination, the port of La Rochelle, located on the Bay of Biscay in western France can now download a cellphone app for access to valuable information about the city.

The application, La Rochelle Tour, helps visitors find museums, restaurants, hotels and tourist attractions within seconds, conveniently from their own cellphones.

Once a user decides upon a destination, the app will assist with calling to make a reservation, or pull up Google Maps for directions from the user’s current location.

Situated on the Atlantic Ocean, La Rochelle is a major fishing and shipping port, and a popular port of call for many cruise lines.

Steeped in over 1000 years of history, a great deal of effort has been put into restoring and maintaining the city. The port has been in existence since the 13th century, and the towers that still adorn it today date back to the 14th and 15th centuries.
