Pierre Hardy designs shoes that pop

Limited edition sneaker is inspired by ’60s pop art.

French designer Pierre Hardy is continuing an annual Christmas tradition, releasing a limited edition unisex sneaker just in time for the holidays, reports Vogue.

The brightly-colored Poworama sneaker will be limited to only 500 pairs. With circular cut-outs in the heel and a leather patchwork of vibrant red, white, yellow and black panels along the sides and tongue, the shoes make a bold statement – reinforced by the removable ‘POW’ patch on the velcro fastener at the ankle.

"This season, the latest collector sneaker pays tribute to Roy Lichtenstein and to the Pop Art movement of the ’60s," the company explains on their official Facebook page.

"This classic sneaker is marked by cut-outs of all sizes and the colors are simple but bold. The onomatopoeic ‘POW’ slogan, positioned on the velcro fastening, evokes the world of the American comics that the artist himself was so fond of."

The Poworama sneaker will hit shelves in December and is expected to retail for about $600 a pair. The shoe will be distributed through select retailers worldwide, including Pierre Hardy boutiques in Paris and New York City, as well as high-end department stores in Milan, Florence, Athens, Saint Petersburg, Sydney, Melbourne, Bangkok, Seoul, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Singapore.
