Pitbull goes ‘back in time’ for the ‘Men In Black’ soundtrack

Pitbull went "back in time" with the sound of his new track for the ‘Men In Black III’ soundtrack

Pitbull went "back in time" for the ‘Men In Black’ soundtrack.

The ‘International Love’ hitmaker decided on a retro sound for the track, ‘Back In Time’, which features on the ‘Men In Black III’ soundtrack.

The Cuban-born rapper said: "I sat down with the movie producers and they told me the slogan was going, ‘back in time’ – they’re going to 1969 in the movie – I said, ‘OK great, lets look for a sample’.

"I went to the producers that I deal with – Big Syphe, Marc Kinchen – they came back with the Mickey & Sylvia’s ‘Love Is Strange’ sample, which is actually from the 1950s. The record’s been used in ‘Dirty Dancing’ and ‘Casino’ so everybody knows it from back in the day.

"I said well let’s just make it something new. They said: ‘Take something old and modify it’ – great let’s do it, no problem! "

Pitbull, 31, also had a message for his A-list collaborators who made the ‘I Know You Want Me’ singer a global superstar.

He added: "To everyone who’s given me the opportunity to work with them, from Marc Anthony, Enrique Iglesias, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Usher and Chris Brown. I look at it as a platform to get to each other’s fans and give them different worlds.

"It’s definitely a blessing, but the good thing is I just believe in working hard."

‘Back In Time’ is featured in ‘Men In Black 3’, starring Will Smith, Josh Brolin and Tommy Lee Jones.
