Planes are flying again in the skies over Tahiti

The general strike only lasted five days.

The call for a general strike in French Polynesia went out last Thursday. It only lasted a few days and affected certain sectors in the country, including air transport. Activities resumed last night, allowing thousands of passengers to enter or leave the country.

In all, nearly 4,500 passengers were affected by the general strike that touched air travel, customs and public treasury services. Many other sectors decided not to join the strike action.

Tourism is an important sector of the economy. The island of Tahiti located in French Polynesia has a worldwide reputation for its beautiful beaches and stunning landscape.

Passengers who were waiting to board a flight are asked to wait for a confirmation from their airline before arriving at the airport. It is expected that some people will have to wait another few days before they can get on their flight as the situation cannot get back to normal overnight.
