Porter adds flights to Windsor, Sault Ste. Marie

Airline adds two new destinations from downtown Toronto.

Canada’s Porter Airlines is adding new flights from Toronto to Windsor and Sault Ste. Marie beginning this spring, reports the Globe and Mail.

Operating out of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, flights to Windsor begin April 27 and will be offered up to three times a day, while twice-daily round-trip flights to Sault Ste. Marie begin May 4.

"We look forward to bringing our unique service to Windsor and Sault Ste. Marie. This expanding network provides more opportunities for passengers to choose Porter when traveling to important regional cities," said Porter Airlines president and CEO Robert Deluce.

"I’m thrilled that Porter has decided to add daily flights from downtown Toronto to Windsor. I’ve been advocating for this route for years, based on our region’s business needs and tourism offerings," said Windsor West MPP Sandra Pupatello.

The new connections are expected to create competition for Air Canada and VIA Rail, especially while Porter offers low introductory fares to kick off the service. A one-way flight from Toronto to Windsor costs only $89 on Porter, compared to over $200 on Air Canada – while the four-hour economy-class train ride costs around $60 with VIA Rail.
