Portishead Plans Next Album

Portishead is finally getting back into the recording studio.

According to BBC 6 Music, Portishead fans won’t have to wait much longer for new material from the band.

Geoff Barrow, Beth Gibbons and Adrian Utley are back in the studio to lay the groundwork for their next album, which they hope to release before the end of 2010.

The Bristol, England band, which was a pioneer in the trip-hop movement, burst onto the music scene in 1994 with the release of the album Dummy.  In 1997 they released an eponymous album.

For the next 11 years, apart from a concert album released in 1998, Portishead seemed to be on hiatus.  A third album, called Third, from the band was released in 2008, and received rave reviews, and even landed them on several best albums of 2008 lists.

Geoff Barrow, the multi-instrumentalist of the band, has been busy with his own label and working with another trio, Beak.  Beak is recording their first album on Barrow’s label.
