Prince Edward meets beauty queens

Britain’s Prince Edward met with beauty queens yesterday (05.23.13).

Edward – the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth – chatted with beauty pageant winners who had received Duke of Edinburgh awards at the Governor’s Mansion in Nashville, Tennessee, while dining on a feast of tea, crumpets and canapes, followed by hamburgers and hot dogs at a reception hosted by Governor Bill Haslam.

The prince was at the mansion as part of his work in support of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, where he presided over an awards ceremony for the first batch of young people in Tennessee to take part in the leadership scheme.

Joking the participants were ”guinea pigs”, he added: ”So you’re leading the way here. Welcome to an international family. It’s great to see Tennessee taking part in this programme and supporting it so well.”

Around 80 people aged 14-25 received the award for participating in community service, skills development, physical fitness and adventurous journeys through organisations including Boys and Girls Clubs, the Boy Scouts and the Miss Tennessee Scholarship Organisation.

The recipients and their families were then invited to the reception inside the governor’s house.

The Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme launched in the US in 2007 and runs in 30 states.
