Prince Felipe expresses devotion to Spain

In his first public address following the announcement of King Juan Carlos’ abdication, Spain’s Prince Felipe vowed to dedicate himself to the Spanish people when he becomes king.

Spain’s Prince Felipe has expressed his devotion to the country.

The crown prince, who will become king when his father King Juan Carlos abdicates the throne, has spoken for the first time about his impending accession, insisting he will devote himself to serving the Spanish people.

Felipe said he would dedicate ”all my strength with hope and expectation to the passionate task of continuing to serve the Spanish people and our beloved Spain. A nation, a united and a diverse social and political community, which has its roots in a long history”.

The 46-year-old heir was speaking at the Prince of Viana Prize for Culture ceremony at a monastery in Navarra, Spain, yesterday (06.04.14).

Felipe also addressed growing unemployment in Spain and calls for Catalonian independence.

He added: ”In difficult periods such as these we are going through, past experience in history shows us that only by uniting our desires, putting the common good ahead of individual interests and promoting the initiative, curiosity and creativity of each person, can we manage to advance to better scenarios.”
