Prince George gets NZ stamp

Britain’s Prince George will have his own New Zealand stamp.

For the first time in 170 years, New Zealand Post is issuing the tiny tot – who was welcomed into the world 24 days ago – with his own commemorative stamp to mark his birth.

Photographs that’ll be used on the stamps will be ones taken outside the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London, just a day after he was born, which will show the royal baby with his parents, Prince William and Duchess Catherine.

A limited edition one-ounce silver-proof coin with gold plating is also being issued, which will feature a coronet design assigned to the third-in-line to the throne.

New Zealand Post spokesman, Simon Allison, said in a statement: ”The minute news of the prince’s birth came through, we put into action a plan we’d had in place and worked around the clock to get our commemorative stamp and coin issue finalized.”

The stamps will be released September 11, but pre-order is available now.

Meanwhile, the Royal Canadian Mint recently unveiled two special coins and a collector coin set last week to mark the arrival of the royal baby.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony Rideau Hall in Ottawa, Canada, Governor General David Johnston said previously: ”These coins are exceptional keep-sakes and tangible reminders to Royal watchers and collectors alike, indeed to all Canadians, of this historic occasion.”
