Prince George to wear replica gown at christening

Britain’s Prince George will wear a replica of a traditional 172-year-old gown at his christening this autumn after the original was deemed too delicate to use following Lady Louise Windsor’s naming ceremony in 2004.

Britain’s Prince George will wear a replica of a traditional 172-year-old gown at his christening.

Prince William and Duchess Catherine will dress their newborn baby, The Prince of Cambridge – who was born last week – in a perfect imitation of the original 1841 outfit when he is christened this autumn.

Lady Louise Windsor last donned the custom-made original gown for her naming ceremony in 2004, but afterwards the frayed frock was said to be too delicate to use again.

It ends a long tradition which has seen more than 30 newborns, including George’s father Prince William, wear the same Honiton lace and white satin outfit, as well as Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles.

But when George – or Georgie as he is being called by the Royal Family – is not wearing traditional clothing at royal engagements, he might be seen in mini versions of Kanye West’s clothing line.

The rapper – who has one-month-old daughter North West with Kim Kardashian – recently sent William and Catherine several of his garments, including skinny jeans and hooded sweatshirts, to dress their newborn baby in should they wish.
