Prince William announces engagement

Prince William officially engaged to Kate Middleton last month.

Ending months of speculation, the English royal family released a statement today (November 16) to announce the engagement of Prince William to Kate Middleton, reports People.

“The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton. The wedding will take place in the Spring or Summer of 2011, in London. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course,” said the official communiqué.

The couple became engaged in October during a 10-day trip to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, owned by a family friend, in Kenya, Africa, to celebrate William passing his tough RAF helicopter search and rescue course.

Following the marriage, the couple will live in north Wales, where Prince William will finish out his statutory duty working as search and rescue helicopter pilot with the Royal Air Force.

Both 28, the future bride and groom have been dating off and on for eight years. They met when they were taking the same history of art course at St Andrews in 2001. Prince William is the elder son of Charles, Prince of Wales, and Diana, Princess of Wales, and is second in the line of succession, behind his father, to the throne.
