Prince William to honor soccer referee

Prince William will honor an 86-year-old soccer referee who has spent 55 years volunteering at Sunday league matches.

Britain’s oldest soccer referee will be honored by Prince William.

86-year-old Harry Hardy will be given a medal at Buckingham Palace for his work in community football after more than 55 years serving as a referee in Sunday league games.

The Derbyshire resident told the Daily Mirror newspaper: ”I can still run a bit, but I use my years of experience to read a game.”

Harry will be among several volunteers who support the ball game to be honored by William, 31, at the palace next month.

Prince William will have plenty of time for royal engagements now that he has retired from his position as an RAF pilot in the British army.

The royal quit his position following the birth of his first child, Prince George, with wife Duchess Catherine in July.

The young family are currently enjoying some quiet time with William’s grandparents Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip at their Scottish summer retreat Balmoral. They are then expected to move into their new family home, Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace.

It’s thought the queen is also renovating Amner Hall, located on the grounds of Sandringham in Norfolk, to serve as a country retreat for William and Catherine.
