Monaco’s Princess Charlene is ready to have children.
The former Olympic swimmer needed a period of ”adjustment” after her wedding to Prince Albert in 2011 and wanted to take time to set up a charitable foundation in her name but she is now preparing to focus on family life.
Charlene – who was the subject of claims she had tried to flee from Albert twice before their nuptials – said: ”I think I needed a bit of time to settle in and adjust. I don’t put any pressure on myself. It’ll happen. If it happens, it happens.
”I wanted to get my foundation launched. I wanted to get the next couple of months sorted out and I can really take a rest. We had a big wedding. It was a big adjustment after that. Now I’m settled and I think kids will come.”
As a swimmer, Charlene competed internationally and won medals at the Commonwealth Games and All-Africa Games but says her career highlight came in her only Olympics appearance, the 2000 Sydney Games.
She told South Africa’s Sunday World newspaper: ”The highlight of my career was the Olympics . walking into that stadium and knowing I’d achieved a dream I’d had since I was eight years old.
”I’ve still got my friends and we still keep in contact. That’s what sport gives you – lifetime friendships. That’s more valuable than anything else.”
