Production stopped on set of 24

The production of 24 will take a break so its leading man can have an operation.

The 24 series on the Fox network stopped production. The Hollywood Reporter says that star Kiefer Sutherland has to undergo surgery following a ruptured cyst.

The incident took place last week but they continued to shoot scenes that did not involve Jack Bauer (Sutherland) until Friday (February 12)

Filming was finally suspended for the weekend and Sutherland is expected to return to work next week.

A rep for the actor says, "While Kiefer Sutherland is frustrated to miss even one day of work, he and Fox decided together that it would be best to complete this minor elective procedure now."

20th Century Fox Television says production will resume rapidly. It does not think there will be any disruption or delay in the release of new episodes this season.

Kiefer Sutherland is also an executive producer on the 24 series, now in its eighth season. It is getting a lot of attention this year because it could be its last season.
