Punk rock makeup tutorials

Ahead of the upcoming "Punk: Chaos to Couture" exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City, and the glamorous opening gala night, we take a look at some beauty tutorials to help achieve a stylish punk-inspired face.

MAC Caroline Donnelly
Makeup artist Caroline Donnelly has worked with punk icons including Pam Hogg, now she shows you how to get her dramatic red lips. Starting with a primer to stop the color from bleeding, she then draws a cupid’s bow shape in red lip liner. Starting in the middle and working her way out, she finishes the look by filling in the color.

Michelle Phan – Nana

Beauty blogger Michelle Phan was inspired by punk rock Japanese animé character Nana for this look. She starts by blocking out her features with thick foundation before adding dramatic dark eyes and lips in different shades of purple.

Topshop – Punk Rebel

Topshop’s Punk Rebel look also starts with concealer, especially to brighten under the eyes. Apply a thick line of kohl black eyeliner for punk-rock rebel eyes. Red lipstick is smudged onto the eyelid and blended outwards, and followed by thick mascara on the upper lashes. The look is finished off with a touch of blusher on the cheeks.
