Quebec City’s Museum of Civilization attracts record numbers to Rome

Popular Rome exhibit breaks attendance records.

Quebec City’s Museum of Civilization exhibit Rome: From the Origins to Italy’s Capital has surpassed attendance records set during the city’s 400th anniversary in 2008, according to LaPresse.

The exhaustive exhibition – featuring 300 masterpieces on loan from Rome’s main museums, including the Capitole and the Vatican museums – has attracted an average of 86,000 visitors each month since opening in May, exceeding 2008’s Secret Riches: Ancient Peru Unearthed exhibit which brought in 77,656 per month. In July alone, the museum saw 92,000 people pass through its turnstiles compared to last July’s total of 69,000.

Quebec’s Government Office in Rome actively helped to assemble the ambitious Canadian exhibition that encompasses more than 2,600 years of Roman history.

Rome will continue to run through January 29, 2012 and is included in the official program marking festivities for the 150th anniversary of Italy’s unification.
