Queen Elizabeth’s horse disqualified from Ascot Gold Cup

Queen Elizabeth’s horse Estimate has been stripped of the second place title at this yea’s Ascot Gold Cup championship after testing positive to morphine.

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth’s horse has been disqualified from the Ascot Gold Cup.

The 88-year-old monarch’s mare, Estimate, has been stripped of the second place title in this year’s racing competition after testing positive to morphine.

Estimate, five, was one of the eight horses to fail the dope-test in July, which has since been traced to a batch of contaminated food.

A British Horseracing Authority (BHA) hearing on Thursday (09.25.14) accepted that trainer Sir Michael Stoute had taken ”all reasonable measures” to prevent the incident from happening.

John Warren, the Queen’s racing advisor, said: ”We totally accept in full the Panel’s findings.

”We also welcome the BHA’s recognition that… the accidental administration of a prohibited substance was in no way the fault of those connected to the horses.”

The prize money – totaling up to £80,625, will now be handed to Missunited, who originally finished in third, and former soccer star Michael Owen’s horse, Brown Panther, will been bumped up into to third place.

Estimate, who won the Gold Cup in 2013 and the Doncaster Cup earlier this month, is set to retire from racing in order to take on a breeding career.
