Queen Elizabeth’s horse wins at Royal Ascot

Queen Elizabeth’s horse Estimate won the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot, making history as the first reigning monarch’s steed to win in 207 years.

Queen Elizabeth’s horse Estimate won the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot yesterday (06.20.13).

The British monarch was beaming with pride as her four-year-old filly emerged victorious in a tight race for the prestigious prize at the annual horseracing competition, marking the first time a reigning monarch’s steed has won the race in 207 years.

Estimate fended off stiff competition from fellow racehorse Simeon in the final furlong, but managed to pass the victory line just in time to win the Gold Cup and put a smile on her owner’s face.

Jockey Ryan Moore said: ”All we had was this race in mind – it’s great to ride any winner for the Queen but to do it in the Gold Cup is very special.

”We had a good draw and the pace wasn’t mad at the beginning, she relaxed so well over the final furlongs.”

Meanwhile, the queen’s grandson Peter Phillips told Channel 4: ”It’s amazing, this is her passion and her life and she’s here every year and she strives to have winners.

”To win the big one at Royal Ascot means so much to her. Everyone is just thrilled, it’s very close to her heart and today is very special.”
