Quentin Tarantino is no Smurf

Negotiations are over between Quentin Tarantino and film producers.

Quentin Tarantino will not lend his voice to the character of Brainy Smurf in the 3D film The Smurfs. Talks between producers and the filmmaker broke down.

Sony Pictures Animation president Hannah Minghella says, "There were conversations about it, but it didn’t work out."

Katy Perry has signed on to play Smurfette, George Lopez will be Grouchy Smurf, Alan Cumming will be Gutsy Smurf, Jonathan Winters will be Papa Smurf and Kevin James will be Hefty Smurf.

Neil Patrick Harris will play the human character that helps the Smurfs in the movie.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Hank Azaria (Year One, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian) was cast in the role of the villain Gargamel.

Raja Gosnell (Scooby-Doo) will direct the film.

Quentin Tarantino has not chosen a new project since wrapping up Inglourious Basterds last year. We only know that the third Kill Bill film is in the works but will not be released before 2014.

The Smurfs will open in theatres on August 3, 2011.
