R.E.M. album in the can

The band records its 15th studio album in Berlin.

R.E.M. announced the end of recording a new album at Hansa Studio in Berlin that should see the light of day in Spring 2011.

Band manager Bertis Jones commented on the R.E.M. website that Berlin was "an excellent place to set up camp and make a great record."

Jones went on to say: "while I will not report on the sound or the dimension of the recordings so far, to my ears it all sounds like quite a wonderful set of songs."

They worked with producer Jacknife Lee who now has the task of readying the album for its upcoming release.

R.E.M.’s 15th as-yet-titled studio album will be a follow-up to Accelerate, released in 2008. That album received very favourable reviews and was also produced by Jacknife Lee.

R.E.M. just released an expanded reissue of their 1985 album Fables of the Reconstruction. It is available both digitally and in a 2-CD format.
