Radiohead approves concert bootleg to benefit Haiti

Alt rock band gives fans permission to release a bootleg film of their benefit concert for Haiti.

English alt rock band Radiohead have given their fans the go-ahead to release a bootleg video recording of last year’s benefit concert for Haiti, provided the proceeds go to Oxfam, reports Spinner.

The band performed last January to raise money for relief efforts after the Haiti earthquake. As bootleg footage of the concert began to pop up on YouTube, a few fans had the idea of splicing it all together to create a single master recording.

Working from 14 video recordings and four audio tracks, it took the three fans almost an entire year to compile and edit the footage into a coherent narrative. After some deliberation, they got up the nerve to submit it to the band’s manager.

"I heard back within two days that it was a great idea. He mentioned that the band wanted us to get donations for Haiti. I suggested a few organizations, and they decided to go with Oxfam," explained Dr. Inez Rogatsky, one of the fans involved.

The film is available as a pay-what-you-can download through the Oxfam website and is streaming on YouTube.

"It’s especially important now, as the one-year anniversary of the earthquake is here, that this project helps to remind people that the dire situation in Haiti is far from over, and that continued support from the rest of the world is needed," said Bob Ferguson from Oxfam.
