Radiohead slows down

The group decides to take a break from working on the new album.

Radiohead’s eighth studio album may be almost done but it is not ready to be released. The band is working on a follow-up to 2007’s In Rainbows. That album won the Grammy for Best Alternative Music album in 2009.

Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien told BBC 6 Music in June: "We’re at the studio at the moment. We’re in the heart of the record." He also added that the new album would be ready in "a matter of weeks".

Well, stop the presses! Another member of Radiohead made a contrary announcement. Drummer Phil Selway told DigitalSpy: "We keep on hitting those points where you think, ‘We’re there’. And then you think, ‘No, it’s not’. We’re having a break from it at the moment…and then we’ll come back to it later in the summer and see where we are. It’s not finished yet. It’s still ongoing. We like where we are so far."

Selway would not pinpoint a potential release date for the new album. It is therefore unlikely the album will be released in 2010 as was previously reported.
