Rafael Nadal for Armani

Italian fashion house unveils first images of its ad campaign featuring top-ranked tennis pro.

International Italian fashion house Armani has signed top-ranked tennis pro Rafael Nadal as the new face of Emporio Armani Underwear and Armani Jeans, reports Coco Perez.

The 24-year-old Spaniard will be the global star of the spring-summer 2011 collections for Emporio Armani Underwear and Armani Jeans. The first campaign to feature Rafa will launch in February.

The brand recently released the first images of its new advertising campaign, shot by photographer duo Mert and Marcus, which doesn’t officially launch until next month. Nadal will join actress Megan Fox who has become the latest female to sport Armani underwear.

In modelling for Italian designer Giorgio Armani, Nadal is set to follow in the footsteps of soccer star hunks David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.

This is the first time that the label has chosen a tennis player for the job, and Armani said that he selected Nadal as his latest male underwear model because "…he is ideal as he represents a healthy and positive model for youngsters."

This is not Nadal’s first experience promoting a luxury brand, as he was the face of Lanvin perfumes in 2009. The tennis champion was featured in advertisements for the fragrance L’Homme Sport by Lanvin.
