Recall of Kraft tartar sauce

Kraft Canada voluntarily recalls batches of its tartar sauce over an error on the label.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Kraft Canada are warning people not to consume certain batches of Kraft Tartar Sauce. There’s an error on the label which could seriously affect people who are allergic to eggs.

The nutritional information label contains a significant error because egg content was not specified in the ingredients. This applies to 355 ml containers with expiration dates of October 2 or 8, 2010. The product was distributed throughout the country.

This sauce could provoke a serious, even fatal allergic reaction in someone who is allergic to eggs. The CFIA warns, "Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to egg."

Although "there have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products," Kraft Canada is not taking any chances. It is voluntarily recalling this product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
