Recall of more than 150,000 baby gates

Evenflo recalls more than 150,000 wooden child gates.

The Globe and Mail reports that Evenflo has recalled 150,000 wooden child gates.

These gates are supposed to prevent children from accessing stairs, for example. But these gates have been found to cause more harm than good.

Made in Mexico, the Top-of-Stair Plus model can break and detach. This can pose a falling hazard for children if the gate is used at the top of the stairs.

Evenflo has recorded more than 142 incidents in the United States with 11 injuries and two children actually falling down the stairs. The company has recorded 26 incidents in Canada with one minor injury.

The gate was sold online and in stores like Toys ‘R  Us, Burlington Baby Depot et Kmart between December 2007 to September 2009 in Canada, and October 2008 to July 2009 in the United States.

Evenflo has recalled 33,000 of the gates in Canada.
