Recall of more than two million children’s ride-on-toys

Step2 recalls two ride-on-toys for children sold between 1999 and 2009.

Step2, Health Canada and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall for two ride-on-toys made by Step2. The Push Around Buggy and Whisper Ride Buggy are affected by the recall.

The toys were manufactured in the United States by Step2 – the company logo appears in red on the handle – and were sold in Canada and the U.S. between 1999 and 2009. All in all, 2,500,000 ride-on-toys are recalled. The affected models include:

715700 — Push Around Buggy
792300 — Push Around Buggy
7923TA — Push Around Buggy
7923OR — Push Around Buggy (orange)
796600 — Deluxe Push Around Buggy
7966TA — Deluxe Push Around Buggy
768400 — Whisper Ride Buggy
882900 — Whisper Ride (green)
885700 — Whisper Ride Buggy (pink)

On these versions, the handle is attached to the ride by a pin topped with a yellow cap. The hole which holds the plastic pin can get bigger and free the restraint. The handle can break off and the adult loses control of the toy.

Step2 has recorded 28 incidents. Health Canada has not received one complaint up until this point.

Ride-on-toys with a handle attached by a black or white nut and bolt are not affected by this recall.
