Reese Witherspoon: Tennessee is ‘redneck’ name

Reese Witherspoon has joked that her three-month-old son’s moniker Tennessee is a very "redneck" name.

Reese Witherspoon has given her son a "redneck" name.

The 36-year-old actress joked that calling her three-month-old child Tennessee – after the US state in which she grew up – is typical of the working class South and made it impossible for her friends to guess whether the baby was a boy or a girl.

While interviewing Reese, her close friend Chelsea Handler joked to the ‘Chelsea Lately’ chat show audience: "She wouldn’t tell me if she was having a boy or girl. Then you said, ‘I’m pretty sure someone’s reading our texts’, and I said, ‘Please don’t text me again because I don’t want to be blamed.’

"Then you had the baby and you named it Tennessee and I still couldn’t figure out if it was a boy or a girl."

Reese laughed: "Or just a redneck!"

Tennessee – who was born on September 27- is Reese’s first child with her CAA agent husband Jim Toth, and she is thrilled with the tiny tot, gushing that he always looks "super cute".

The ‘Water For Elephants’ actress hasn’t been doing all the hard work herself, however, and revealed that her eight-year-old son Deacon and 13-year-old daughter Ava from her first marriage to Ryan Phillippe love looking after their baby brother.

Ava in particular has been a big help, and Reese boasted: "She’s 13 and so awesome."
