Remake of The Birds Coming

Universal Pictures is planning to remake the Hitchcock film The Birds.

Michael Bay’s company, Platinum Dunes, is currently in discussions with Peter Guber, of Mandalay Pictures to coproduce the remake of the classic horror film from 1963.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the new version is based on the story written by Daphne Du Maurier, to which Universal has the rights, and was used for the inspiration of the original film.  The Birds is about a flock who terrorizes a small town.

It will be the second time a Hitchcock film is remade.  Universal remade a version of Psycho in 1998, which was directed by Gus Van Sant.

Platinum Dunes has produced other successful remakes, including The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in 2003, and The Amityville Horror.
